Advice

Since its formation, the More House Foundation has supported schools in many different ways. Some had a particular problem which they wanted resolved, often about the provision required to support an individual child or group of children. Others sought advice in order to develop the provision they already offered, wanting to deliver the best possible outcome for a modest expenditure on resources. Some asked for an audit of what they had available. Schools have asked for help with the planning of provision and curriculum for students with SEND. Some wanted help with EHCPs and their relationships with Local Authorities.

Covid 19 has presented particular challenges: Many Learning Support Depts (LSD) have been doing outstanding work, supporting their children by using various virtual platforms and online contact. But the return to school has raised new issues. MHF has suggested to schools ways in which their CYPs who have SEND may be supported at less risk to valuable staff.

Training

Most of the education of SEND children and young people takes place in “ ordinary” lessons delivered by teachers who have little training in supporting SEND students. It has been found that if some basic training is delivered to the whole staff body of a school, the empathy for SEND students and the understanding of their needs improves, which leads to a better delivery of provision throughout the school , with a consequent improvement in outcomes, not just for SEND students but for all in a teaching group. MHF can deliver such training online or at a school.

Affiliation

Schools seeking regular help and support for their SEND students, or for their Learning Support Department to get outside advice to help their students and their programmes of study, might consider affiliation to The More House Foundation. A package of support can be negotiated which suits the needs of a particular school, its staff and its students.

Setting up a new department or new specialist school

MHF is currently helping a European international school develop a new learning support department, but the need for more specialist schools in the UK is considerable and the financial return on any investment would be more than satisfactory. MHF is eager to be involved in any such development.

Fees

These will be agreed in advance and will vary according to the task to be undertaken.
